Director : John Sayles
Powerful story of a small town and its residents being controlled by the brutal mining company where the majority of the town works. Still John Syles best movie
Director : Gary Marshall
Really just a classic screwball comedy..would have fit in perfectly around 1942…completely light weight plot but its all done with a real sense of humor and the feeling everyone was having a great time making it…always makes me laugh
Director : Ringo Lam
Intense story of a cop going under cover to catch a group of theives..its plot seems to have launched a 100 imitators. Chow Lun Fat and Danny Lee are excellent as usual..top flight cop movie
Director : Bruce Robinson
One of those love it or hate movies..the type that may take a couple viewings before you “get it”…worth the effort..very British and very funny
Director : Béla Tarr
proof positive of the power of visual film making..not many directors have the guts to create a movie so deliberate and so steeped in realism. Not for everyone..(mostly film snobs…hey that makes me…um..hmmm) but if you have a love for haunting visuals and the patience to accept the deliberate nature of his work Béla Tarr may just be for you
Directors : Joel & Ethan Coen
Glen: Say that reminds me, how’d you get that kid so darn fast? Me and Dot went in to adopt on account a’ somethin’ went wrong with my semen, and they said we had to wait five years for a healthy white baby. I said, “Healthy white baby? Five years? What else you got?” Said they got two Koreans and a negro born with his heart on the outside. shhii It’s a crazy world.
H.I.: Someone oughta sell tickets.
Glen: Sure, I’d buy one.
Director : Marek Kanievska
Flawed film but still one that leaves its mark….does it live up to the novel..no
Is Robert Downet Jr. terrific in it..yes…so is James Spader at his sleazy best.
Rip : Are you ready to go to work for me tonight Julian?
Director : Stanley Kubrick
Gunnery Sergeant Hartman: If you ladies leave my island, if you survive recruit training, you will be a weapon. You will be a minister of death praying for war. But until that day you are pukes. You are the lowest form of life on Earth. You are not even human, fucking beings. You are nothing but unorganized grabastic pieces of amphibian shit. Because I am hard you will not like me. But the more you hate me the more you will learn. I am hard but I am fair. There is no racial bigotry here. I do not look down on niggers, kikes, wops or greasers. Here you are all equally worthless. And my orders are to weed out all non-hackers who do not pack the gear to serve in my beloved Corps. Do you maggots understand that?
Director : Jonathan Demme
Spalding Gray tells about his participation in the film, “The Killing Fields” and the background story about the troubles of filming in Cambodia
This one man movie is both funny and thought provoking..Gray was one of America’s truly great monologists
Tagline: There are angels on the streets of Berlin.
A beautiful film..Wenders uses the fantasy world of Angels to teach us just how precious life is on Earth. A true classic
Director : James L. Brooks
Aaron Altman: [angrily at the television] A lot of alliteration from anxious anchors placed in powerful posts!
Classy, well acted and smart film..a movie you could have easily seen someone like Howard Hawks directing 50 years ago
Director : Seth Gordon
This is without question one of the most entertaining documentaries of all time. It contains one of the great movie villians of all time in the delusional Billy Mitchell and his “fans” in the underground world of classic video gaming. You will never come across a bigger group of geeks, losers and followers. The insular world they live in where Billy Mitchell is their king and what they do to under-mind Steve Wiebe when he attemtps to knock off their hero is both sad and hysterical. One thing this movie will do is give you a new appreciation for how difficult it is to save the princess from Kong.
Director Tony Gilroy
Smart, sharp, intelligent adult filmmaking. Hey Ill admit it..I like Clooney..I think he’s a very good actor and an even better movie star. He makes smart choices..and never comes off as someone looking down on his audience..He gives a multi-layered performance in the title role as a “fixer” for his law firm..in this instance “fixing” the mess that an amazing Tom Wilkinson created by giving in to his psychological issues as well as conscience.
Director : Paul Thomas Anderson
Another amazing step in Paul Thomas Andersons career. Daniel Day Lewis gives one the best film performances this decade. he literally just eats up the screen… An epic film inambition and visuals..but still a small personal story that has intimate qualities not seen in a film of this type
Director: Judd Apatow
Debbie: I’m not gonna go to the end of the fucking line, who the fuck are you? I have just as much of a right to be here as any of these little skanky girls. What, am I not skanky enough for you, you want me to hike up my fucking skirt? What the fuck is your problem? I’m not going anywhere, you’re just some roided out freak with a fucking clipboard. And your stupid little fucking rope! You know what, you may have power now but you are not god. You’re a doorman, okay. You’re a doorman, doorman, doorman, doorman, doorman, so… Fuck You! You fucking fag with your fucking little faggy gloves.
Doorman: I know… you’re right. I’m so sorry, I fuckin’ hate this job. I don’t want to be the one to pass judgement, decide who gets in. Shit makes me sick to my stomach, I get the runs from the stress. It’s not cause you’re not hot, I would love to tap that ass. I would tear that ass up. I can’t let you in cause you’re old as fuck. For this club, you know, not for the earth.
Doorman: You old, she pregnant. Can’t have a bunch of old pregnant bitches running around. That’s crazy, I’m only allowed to let in five percent black people. He said that, that means if there’s 25 people here I get to let in one and a quarter black people. So I gotta hope there’s a black midget in the crowd.
